Dr Philip Brown

Dr Philip Brown joined the board of Pharmovation in January 2007. Dr Brown has a wide knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, having founded PJB Publications in 1976. The company which publishes the pre-eminent pharmaceutical news journal Scrip, was sold to Informa in 2003. Dr Brown, an alumnus of the School of Pharmacy, has also served on the boards of several companies and has previously served as Chairman of the Bloomsbury Bio -Seed Fund, an investment vehicle which has invested in many London-based biotechnology start-up companies.
   


Dr Bill Lindsay - Managing Director

After completing his PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Durham, and postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford and the Salk Institute in California, Bill was employed by the molecular biology section of Thermo Electron Corporation, initially responsible for technology acquisition and latterly as Business Development Manager with responsibility for licensing and intellectual property. During this time Bill completed a Masters degree in Management of Intellectual Property. In 2003 Bill joined the School of Pharmacy as Business Development Manager and was a driving force in the formation of Pharmovation in 2005.

James Gemmell

James Gemmell was until 2007 Chairman & Regional Director-Europe of Horwath International the top 10 accounting, tax and business services network. He was for many years a partner and, latterly Chairman of the UK accounting firm Horwath Clark Whitehill LLP. James Gemmell is also Treasurer and lay member of council of The School of Pharmacy, University of London. He is a Scottish Chartered Accountant, an Honorary Fellow of the School of Pharmacy, University of London and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Anthony Smith

Anthony Smith is Principal and Dean of The School of Pharmacy, University of London. He took up his appointment in April 2006. He gained a BPharm with first class honours from the University of Bath in 1983. After registration as a pharmacist, he returned to Bath to study for his PhD on ‘Photoenzymatic repair in E. coli’ and he graduated in 1987. He spent six years at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Aston University in Birmingham and returned to Bath in 1993. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1999, Head of Department in 2002 and Personal Chair in 2004. He has been a member, Vice-Chair and Chair of the Academic Pharmacy Group Committee and he currently sits on the RPSGB’s Adjudicating committee. As a Head of School he takes an active interest in all aspects and levels of pharmacy education. His research is aimed at understanding how pathogenic bacteria adapt to survive and resist antimicrobial treatment.

Dr. Bill Dawson

Bill Dawson has a first degree in pharmacy, a PhD in pharmacology and over 30 years experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry having been Research Director for Eli Lilly on the UK site for 14 years and then Director of Technology Acquisition for Eli Lilly in Europe. He is a non-executive director and scientific advisory board member of a number of start-up biotech companies. He is a Council Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, has worked extensively with the Research Councils in the UK over many years and is a visiting Professor to Sheffield Hallam University.

Dr Stéphane Méry

Dr Stéphane Méry has been Fund Manager of the Bloomsbury Bioseed Fund since November 2000. He is also a Director of Healthcare Investment at Noble Fund Manager. Previously, Stephane was Associate Director, Worldwide Business Development, for SmithKline Beecham and was instrumental in the assessment and the negotiation of several major in-license deals and acquisitions. Prior to these experiences, he worked as a management consultant at the American consulting firm, ZS Associates, specialising on sales and marketing issues within the pharmaceutical industry. He was then involved in the start-up of a strategic consulting company specialising in R&D and marketing strategy for the biotech and healthcare industry, Double Helix Development. Stephane is a Doctor in Veterinary Medicine, a trained Veterinary Pathologist, specialising in Nasal Toxicology at the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology (CIIT) in North Carolina, and holds an MBA from INSEAD (Fontainebleau).
